Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge

In the south west of the island, at 400m in altitude, Chamarel is surrounded by the natural park of the Black River gorges, a protected natural heritage site. In this region, the World Wild Life Society has managed to save a number of species from extinction like the kestrel, the pink pigeon, and the green parrot.Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge is a small ‘boutique hotel’, managed ‘like a Guesthouse’ but with the full service of a 5* hotel! At the origin of every thing the traveller meets is written a story: Here is the story of a dream, which originated from our life plan. We were looking for a place where we could, one day, settle; a place where peace and serenity, calm and beauty, authenticity and harmony would prevail in simplicity and comfort; We wanted to create a space for life, for happiness, a space where time seems to stand still, where we take time to listen to the silence… A place of well-being which allows our interior self to open up and which invites us to reconnect with the essential. We found this land enclaved in a small valley and abandoned for more than 50 years! « No one had since dared to cultivate this distressed land…» - Bernardin de Saint Pierre in Paul and Virginie When we arrived on the site there were only weeds, creepers, ‘Ravenales’ and ‘piquants loulou’! And it is underneath all this invading vegetation that our dream began… In 1997, with the help of our daughters, started the creation of this place where you are. Together, we dug the first ditches, we put into ground the first plants, the fruit trees under which you can stand today and feel the sweetness of their shade and listen to the wind singing through their leaves.

Accommodation

Scattered around the main building, the 20 Rooms & Suites has a different decoration representing the diversity of different cultures on the Island. Each room declines its ethnic influence in its furniture and its decoration: China, Africa, India, or simply tropical. The wood, the slate, the beams, the terra cotta, the ton ochre, beige and rust typically confer to this Exclusive Lodge, a Mauritian charm. The terraces open on the infinite one; the bathrooms to open sky make it possible to benefit from the spectacle of surrounding nature. For more intimacy, and to be able to connect with nature there is no TV in the rooms.

Dining

Taste… Taste, smell, allow your senses to come alive again and your taste buds to enjoy themselves! Our chef will invite you to discover our cooking based on Mauritian products, on tropical fruits and local vegetables prepared ‘couma la kuisine d’antan !’(the old fashioned way). In the kitchen our Chef Eddy is ‘passionately fond’ about his profession! With his team and his sous chef he is always looking for the best flavors to please your taste buds! Our ‘Chamarelloises’ Brinda, Rose with their luminous smile, are delighted to introduce you to our local Cuisine! In the dining room, you will be served with great pleasure by our F&B Manager and his team: Ravissen the best cocktails maker on the Island!

Lakaz, the perfect place, which one would like to keep secret, to relish the joy of silence, the quiet contemplation of lush Nature… or simply enjoy a long moment of relaxation, mixed with a session of sauna, massage or reflexology. Between peaks, valleys and waterfalls, walks along paths, discovery of flora and fauna in the mountains and natural parks of Chamarel and of Black River Gorges ( with or without a guide ), bicycle rides… We organise, according to your wish, your sporting and cultural activities, your visits of the Island, your golf on neighbouring courses or if you prefer a sea outing in the ocean.
